Image-Guided Radiation Therapy

Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) is a type of imaging technique in which frequent imaging (usually daily) is done to improve the precision of the radiation beam throughout a patient's radiation treatment.

Images are obtained in the patient's radiation treatment position on the treatment table. A radiation oncologist can adjust the patient's treatment plan or body positioning as necessary to ensure precise radiation delivery.

This pinpoint accuracy makes it possible to treat tumors near critical organs (such as the spine or blood vessels).
