Special Programs - ET3 and Hospital at Home
Hackensack Meridian Health is excited to offer innovative new programs to make care more accessible and convenient. The success of these programs depends on our partnerships both within HMH and with other community-based health care partners.
Emergency Triage, Treat and Transport (ET3)
ET3 is a pilot program through the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). It allows EMS providers (paramedics, nurses, and EMTs) the ability to offer 9-1-1 patients with certain medical conditions options other than transport to an Emergency Department. Hackensack University Medical Center EMS (HUMC EMS) and JFK University Medical Center EMS (JFK EMS) are the only two EMS programs in New Jersey currently participating in the ET3 program.
Under this pilot program, HUMC EMS and JFK EMS providers can offer Medicare beneficiaries with certain medical conditions the choice of going to an Urgent Care instead of an emergency department, or a telemedicine visit instead of being transported to a facility.

Hospital at Home
The Hackensack Meridian Health Hospital at Home program is an innovative program through the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that allows Medicare beneficiaries with certain medical conditions to receive hospital-level care in the comfort of their homes.
Started during the Covid-19 pandemic, the program helped hospitals care for patients while struggling with bed capacity. Research shows that these programs are at least as safe as inpatient care and result in improved clinical outcomes, higher rates of patient satisfaction, and reduced healthcare costs.
